On November 14, 2023, the Higher School of Law of Astana International University organized and held a meeting of students with the senior prosecutor of the Astana City Prosecutor's Office Tamayev Yerkanat Ermakhanovich.

Yerkanat Ermakhanovich noted that the problem of youth drug addiction is becoming a problem all over the world today. This is due to the fact that nine out of ten drug addicts are unlikely to receive full treatment. Most of them do not live to be 40 years old. The bulk of drug users are young people aged 18 to 30 years. However, unfortunately, recently there are children and teenagers among those who use drugs. Therefore, representatives of the Prosecutor's Office and the competent youth authorities put the work on drug addiction prevention in the foreground.

Yerkanat Ermakhanovich spoke about herbal and synthetic narcotic substances and their compounds. They belong to different groups: narcotic substances of plant origin that are consumed in pure form (marijuana, hashish, poppy, opium, mushrooms); narcotic substances of plant origin that are chemically treated (hashish oil, opium, morphine, heroin, cocaine, etc.); and synthetic narcotic substances (mephedrone, ecstasy, phencyc

As part of the planned events dedicated to the National Currency Day and the Financier's Day, on November 15, 2023, first-year students of the Finance Department of Astana International University under the guidance of HSE lecturer G.A. Kadyrova visited the Museum of the Central Branch of the National Bank of the Republic of Kazakhstan. 

During the tour, students received information about the national currency – tenge, its origin, development and uniqueness.  They learned that today the Kazakhstani tenge, which has 18 degrees of protection, is among the most protected currencies in the world. Cash desks of branches of the National Bank of Kazakhstan sell investment coins made of precious metals – gold and silver. 

This year, the Kazakhstani tenge celebrates its 30th anniversary. In honor of the significant date, the National Bank of Kazakhstan issued new banknotes with images of saiga, snow leopard, golden eagle, tobet and tazy, as well as collectible coins TEŃGEGE 30 JYL from the series of coins "Outstanding events and people".

On October 25, Astana International University signed a memorandum of understanding with Quaid-i-Azam University. Quaid-i-Azam University is one of the top public universities in Islamabad, Pakistan. It is ranked #=315 in QS World University Rankings 2024 being one of the most developed in engineering and technology, natural sciences, biomedical sciences, social sciences and management, #9 in Asian University ranking, and occupies a position in the top 401-500 according to the 2024 Times Higher Education (THE). 

The Department of Botany of the Quaid-i-Azam University and the Higher School of Natural Sciences of the Astana International University has agreed on joint scientific work.

As is well known, in the world the relevance of the topic of Internet fraud, gambling addiction and drug-pawning activities is growing every day, the victims of which are those who are not informed about this and do not know how to respond and what to do if faced with the situation. In this regard, from November 6 to November 11, 2023, the Pedagogical Institute of Astana International University held a series of guest lectures on the topic “Prevention and Preventive Measures of Internet Fraud, Gambling Addiction and Drug-Plundering Activities Among Youth.” Employees of the Astana Police Department were invited, who are directly involved in these issues and have extensive experience and practice. A total of 19 guest lectures were held, attended by 182 student groups and 2,771 students from the Pedagogical Institute. The lectures were very interesting, there were a lot of questions and feedback from students, to which our guests gave comprehensive answers and instructions to avoid problems with scammers, gambling addiction, etc. The students received vital knowledge and were happy to welcome our guests.

Astana International University is developing cooperation with Shenzhen University and the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences.

On October 7th , representatives of Astana International University (AIU) met with a delegation from Shenzhen University. The subject of the conversation was to determine the prospects for future collaboration.

In particular, the parties discussed a number of important issues related to academic exchange, joint research and the development of educational programs. The meeting resulted in the signing of a cooperation agreement, which will become the basis for long-term partnership and knowledge exchange between universities.

The Vice-Rector of Shenzhen University, Mr. Li Yonghua, expressed gratitude for the warm welcome and invited AIU to visit the Chinese university next year for a more detailed study of joint educational programs and scientific research.

AIU representatives also met with the delegation of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences. The guests were presented with the results of the scientific activities of the AIU and structural research institutes engaged in research in the field of social sciences and humanities.

CASS experts of the PRC expressed their readiness to implement joint scientific research, including within the framework of projects of the Research Institute of the Asia-Europe Land-Sea Transport Corridor. An agreement was also reached on the preparation of scientific articles and reviews devoted to the main results and outcomes of the so-called “golden thirty years” of Kazakh-Chinese relations.

These meetings highlight the desire of educational institutions to expand international relations and deepen cooperation to enrich the educational experience of students and scientists from both countries. AIU and its partners will continue its work to strengthen academic connections and joint initiatives in the future.

On November 2, 2023, at the Pedagogical Institute of Astana International University in the assembly hall, the first meeting of the Literary Lounge dedicated to the 130th anniversary of the famous Kazakh poet and writer, publicist and public figure Sultanmakhmut Toraigyrov “Poetry is calling us into the distance...” was held. Faculty members of university and students took part in this event and warmly support the speakers. Under the guidance of Associate Professor Abzhakov T.D. and teacher Narmanova R.I. 

1st and 2nd year students prepared a presentation, a video, an expressive reading of S. Toraigyrov’s works, and also recited their own poems. The audience enthusiastically greeted students of various specialties Kabylbek Karakat, Zhaisan Karakat, Aubakirova Zhuldyz, Bolatova Dilyara, Smail Gulfairuz, Orazai Dilyara, Sembaev Ilyas and Kurbanaliev Kenzhebay, who performed soulfully on stage. 

In the Literary Lounge there were also Associate Professor Zh.E. Kuzembaev, who gave a speech on the research of the poet’s work and the creation of the author’s course “Sultanmahmutology”. The Deputy Dean of the Pedagogical Institute S.T. Dyusupova, who congratulated the participants and leaders on the organization and holding of the literary evening. 

At the end of the evening, all students who took an active part in the Literary Lounge were awarded with certificates of the Pedagogical Institute.

AIU has become a member of the National Network on Chemical Safety, POPs and Obsolete Pesticides “ToxicNet”.

The network was created by the Public Foundation “Center for Promotion of Sustainable Development” within the framework of the FAO/GEF project “Life cycle management of pesticides and elimination of pesticide POPs in the countries of Central Asia and Turkey.”

The goal of the Network is to raise awareness of local populations, NGOs and other stakeholders about pollution by toxic substances, including POPs and obsolete pesticides, and to unite partners for common actions to reduce and prevent these pollution.

Participation as a member of the ToxicNet network is of great importance for creating an informed society regarding the safe management of toxic substances, including persistent organic pollutants (POPs) and obsolete pesticides

From October 30 to November 2, the European Film Festival was held in the capital, organized by the Delegation of the European Union to Kazakhstan. The audience was presented with four films – winners and nominees of the most prestigious international film festivals: “Grandfather’s Demons”, “Ramona”, “My love affair with marriage” and “The naked truth about band Zhiguli”.

As part of the Festival program, on October 31, the movie “The naked truth about band Zhiguli” by Bulgarian director Viktor Bozhinov was shown at the Astana International University (AIU).

The film screening at AIU was presented by the Ambassador of the European Union to Kazakhstan – H.E. Kestutis Jankauskas, the Ambassador of Bulgaria - H.E. Boyan Hadjiev and the Ambassador of Slovakia - H.E. Robert Kirnag as well as the President of AIU - S.A. Irsaliyev.

The movie tells us the lifestory of a talented producer and former member of a famous rock band. According to the plot of the film, the heroes have been presented with the opportunity to revive their former musical glory, but the grandiose idea requires inimitable endurance and forces them to make difficult decisions. Success can only be achieved by making every effort and through decisive action in spite of all difficulties.

The plot of the lyrical-comedy resurrection of a rock band from the 80s of the last century was warmly received by our viewers - teachers, students and guests of the university.

At the end of the film screening, souvenirs from the European Union were raffled off among the participants.

Movies do greatly contribute to cultural exchanges and the development of humanitarian partnerships between countries, expand the horizons of the cinematic audience in Kazakhstan, providing the opportunity to immerse themselves in the world of outstanding works of European cinema.

October 27 p.m. At the National Museum of the Republic of Kazakhstan, students and teachers of the Higher School of Art and Design took part in the opening of the exhibition “IZDER IV: PERISHTE ІЗІ”, dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the famous Kazakh artist, Honored Worker of Kazakhstan, Professor Zhumakyn Kayrambaev. The large-scale exhibition included the best paintings by the master, as well as works by his students. Among the participants in the ceremony, the dean of VSID Ybyrai S.B. congratulated the maestro on behalf of the rector, teaching and student staff of the AMU.

It is extremely important for beginning designers to see and understand the variety of plastic and stylistic techniques of contemporary artists of Kazakhstan. Digital technologies make it possible to speed up the creative process, but they will not replace the main features of professional designers and artists - aesthetic taste and creative individuality. In a joint conversation, students and teachers analyzed the works of the master and his students, the traditions of the national school of painting.

The meeting with the paintings of professional artists and Zhumakyn Kayrambaev himself became a creative impulse and a reason for his own artistic reflection.

This year, 30 masters from 12 foreign countries took part in the events: Italy, France, India, Egypt, Japan, Lithuania, Russia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan. More than 60 masters of applied arts from Uzbekistan participated.

“The motto of the IV International Biennale of Applied Arts is “Globalization and the preservation of national traditions: choosing a path” - as a leading idea, it was proposed to consider the problem of preserving the originality of applied art and overcoming the accelerating unification of traditions in the conditions of active globalization of the economy and the dominance of mass culture,” said the curator Biennale Binafsha Nodir.

“At the same time, it is very important to understand that preserving traditions does not mean copying or preserving examples of the past, simplification and primitivization of cultural forms, but serves as the basis for their creative interpretation and innovative development,” she emphasized.

Within the framework of the international biennale, exhibitions of modern Uzbek and foreign decorative art, national ceramics, gold embroidery, jewelry, master classes, presentations, as well as an international scientific and practical conference were held.

Venues include the Central Exhibition Hall of the Academy of Arts of Uzbekistan, the International Caravanserai of Culture of Ikuo Hirayama, the Tashkent House of Photography, the Kamoliddin Bekhzod Museum of Oriental Miniature Arts, and the Fine Arts Gallery of Uzbekistan.

The Pedagogical Institute of Astana International University held guest lectures on the discipline "ethnology" and "demography and population statistics." Following experts were invited from JSC "Institute of Economic Research" Ph.D Tuleshova Sh.P., who took a stand to students on the topic "Demographic challenges in Kazakhstan: urbanization" next guest is from the Institute of Applied Ethnopolitical Research MA. Sagynbaeva A.Z. on the topic "Ethnodemographic development of Kazakhstan: brief results of the 2021 population census."

The expert lectures were held in one phase,  the students extended their knowledge , gained a lot of interesting data and received comprehensive answers to their questions.

In high gratitude and appreciation to the experts, the students contributed good feedback and dedicated a beautiful Kazakh song.
