Astana International University became a co-organizer of the conference on sustainable development in Mumbai, India

On November 22–23, 2024, Astana International University, in collaboration with AI Universal University (India), co-hosted the International Conference on Sustainable Development held in Mumbai. The event attracted leading experts from nine countries, including the USA, China, Iran, Vietnam, the Philippines, and others. Organized in a Case Study format, the conference brought together academics and practitioners to address the key challenges of sustainable development. It provided a unique platform for exchanging experiences, analyzing real-life cases, and exploring practical solutions in areas such as education, economics, and ecology.

 

The main focus of the conference was on integrating theoretical knowledge and practical approaches through case methodology. This allowed participants not only to discuss pressing issues but also to model potential solutions. Key topics addressed during the conference included:

 

Innovative approaches to reforming the education system to achieve Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs);

Environmental sustainability programs aimed at combating climate change and preserving natural resources;

Promoting sustainable economic growth, considering regional and international integration aspects.

One of the significant outcomes of the conference was the adoption of a resolution aimed at actively incorporating sustainable development principles into educational programs and research. Astana International University demonstrated its commitment to the SDGs by initiating the development of new educational strategies focused on fostering a sustainable university ecosystem.

 

The conference also featured workshops and interactive sessions, which facilitated intercultural and professional dialogue. Such events strengthen international collaboration and help universities play a leading role in addressing global challenges.

Lecture by the Deputy Secretary General of the CSTO at the AIU

On November 29, 2024, Astana International University hosted a lecture by the Deputy Secretary General of the CSTO, Taalatbek Shamudinovich Masadykov, on the topic "Topical issues of regional security in Central Asia". During the lecture, the key challenges of the region, the role of Afghanistan and the contribution of the CSTO to ensuring stability were highlighted.

The lecture aroused great interest among students of the specialty "International Relations" and teachers, who actively asked questions about the prospects of international cooperation in Central Asia. In particular, the discussion touched upon important issues such as the development of quality education, which is the basis for the stability and prosperity of the region, as well as Kazakhstan's role in achieving global goals such as poverty eradication and zero hunger.

The lecture was continued by a seminar during which experts and young scientists of the university presented reports on the multi-vector policy of Kazakhstan, humanitarian initiatives, as well as the impact of Afghanistan on Central Asia. These topics have become important elements of the discussion, focusing on how international cooperation and decisive action can help solve global problems such as hunger and poverty and ensure long-term security and stability in the region.

This meeting was a unique opportunity for AIU students and teachers not only to hear the opinion of a world-class expert, but also to be inspired by new ideas and initiatives aimed at developing the region and solving the most pressing problems. She recalled that through open dialogue, cooperation and common efforts, it is possible to overcome any challenges, creating the foundation for a better future.

“Dialogue of Eras: Preserving the Historical Memory of the Peoples of Kazakhstan and the Russian Federation” Roundtable

On November 26, 2024, the “Kazmedia Center” conference hall hosted a roundtable discussion titled “Dialogue of Eras: Preserving the Historical Memory of the Peoples of Kazakhstan and the Russian Federation.” The event’s centerpiece was the presentation of the monograph “A New Perspective on an Old Era: The Kazakh Steppe and the Russian Empire Through the Lens of Statistics.”

The monograph was co-authored by Taisiya Viktorovna Marmontova, Candidate of Historical Sciences, Associate Professor at the School of Arts and Humanities at  Astana International University, and Academic Supervisor of the Central Asian Institute “Eurasian Monitoring”; Alibek Tazhibayev, Director of the Central Asian Institute “Eurasian Monitoring”; and Alexander Igorevich Drogovoz, Deputy Director of the Institute of International Education at A.N. Kosygin Russian State University. Drawing on archival documents and statistical data, the monograph provides a fresh perspective on the historical process of the Kazakh Steppe's integration into the Russian Empire. It underscores the importance of an objective approach to studying complex historical events, steering clear of ideological bias.

The roundtable brought together scholars, diplomats, public figures, and students to discuss how historical memory influences national identity and promotes academic collaboration between Kazakhstan and Russia. The event concluded with a book presentation ceremony and an autograph session with the authors.

Roundtable at AIU: Information Security and "Soft Power" as Development Factors

On November 27, Astana International University hosted an important roundtable on the topic "Humanitarian Aspects of Information Security and 'Soft Power' as Factors for Sustainable Development and National Consolidation of Kazakhstan." The event brought together leading experts and scholars to discuss how Kazakhstan can address modern challenges and effectively use "soft power" to strengthen national unity.

Asem K. Rakhmetova, a member of the Senate of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan, emphasized the importance of finding humanitarian solutions to protect the country’s information space in her speech.

Kazbek U. Maigeldinov, moderator of the roundtable and Chairman of the "Association of Chinese Researchers," facilitated open and productive discussions among the participants.

The roundtable featured renowned experts, including:

  • Galym Baituk, Chairman of the Board of North Kazakhstan University named after M. Kozybaev;
  • Aidar K. Kurmashev, Head of the Asian Studies Department at KISI under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan;
  • Alexander I. Drogovoz, Deputy Director of the Institute of International Education at A.N. Kosygin Russian State University;
  • Alibek T. Tazhibayev, Director of the Eurasian Monitoring Center;
    and other well-known scholars and analysts.

The discussions covered a wide range of topics, from information security protection to the use of cultural influence and diplomacy to enhance Kazakhstan’s stability. Practical solutions were presented to help shape future government policies.

The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Germany visited Astana International University

Astana International University (AIU) had the honor of hosting Her Excellency Monika Iversen, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Republic of Germany to the Republic of Kazakhstan.
This visit was not just an official meeting but a lively dialogue that filled the campus with an atmosphere of mutual understanding and aspirations for new achievements. Her Excellency became acquainted with the university’s educational programs and strategic initiatives. The discussion on collaborative opportunities in science and higher education, as well as the prospects for strengthening ties between Kazakhstan and Germany, was especially inspiring.

Monika Iversen emphasized the importance of fostering international partnerships to create new opportunities for students. She noted that such collaborations not only pave the way for new knowledge but also build bridges of friendship between nations.
