On February 2, 2024, Astana International University hosted a round table on the topic « Elections are a matter for everyone».
The event is dedicated to World Election Day, which this year is celebrated on February 1. The tradition of celebrating World Election Day was approved at the III Global Conference of Election Organizers, held in Budapest in 2005, and falls annually on the first Thursday of February. The decision of the conference opened up new perspectives in recognizing the importance of the work of election organizers and was supported by the United Nations Democracy Fund. According to the idea of the founders, on this day all attention should be paid to the issues of ensuring the electoral rights of citizens and improving electoral processes.
The purpose of the event is to enhance the legal culture of future voters, the formation of young people's knowledge, skills and abilities necessary for the conscious realization of electoral rights.
The round table was attended by the management and teaching staff of the Higher School of Law of Astana International University, representatives of the Central Executive Committee of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the TEC of Astana, doctoral students, students of the AIU.
The opening speech was made by the Deputy dean of the Higher School of Law of Astana International University, Seilkhanov Zhanat Duisenbaevich.
The moderator of the event was Ph.D. in Law, Associate Professor of the Higher School of Law Tusupova Lyazat Kapasovna.
During the round table, a senior lecturer at the Higher School of Law F.M. Abugalieva made a report on the topic «Legal features of the exercise of electoral rights of citizens of the Republic of Kazakhstan».
Associate Professor of the Higher School of Law L.K. Amandykova made a report on the topic «Development of the electoral system in the Republic of Kazakhstan».
During the event, Associate Professor of the Higher School of Law E.S. Zhambayev made a report on «Peculiarities of conducting elections using the electronic electoral system in the Republic of Kazakhstan».
In addition, S.G. Kozhakhmetova, a doctoral student at the Higher School of Law, presented her report on the topic «Legal foundations for the application of democratic methods (elections, referendum)» at the round table.
As part of the round table, a business game on the theme of the event was held among the three teams formed from among the students of the Higher School of Law. The teams answered questions on the active participation of citizens in elections and on improving legislation in this area, taking into account advanced foreign experience.
The organizers of this event are the Higher School of Law of the AIU and the TEC of the Yesil district of Astana.
