A Dual Degree Program between AIU and Vytautas Magnus University: Potential for Developing Bilateral Relations in Higher Education

On September 26, 2025, a meeting was held at Astana International University with representatives from Vytautas Magnus University (Kaunas, Lithuania) and the Department of Postgraduate Education and Academic Mobility, the Department of International Cooperation, and the Department of Science. The meeting included representatives from Vytautas Magnus University (Kaunas, Lithuania) including Professor Bernardas Vaznonis, Dean of the Faculty of Bioeconomics; Dr. Elena Plotnikova, Chief Specialist of the Department of International Cooperation; and Dr. Anastasia Nivikova, Coordinator of Research and Project Activities of the Faculty.

Prospects for developing bilateral cooperation between the educational institutions were discussed during the meeting. The following agreements were reached as a result of the talks:

 

·        organization of academic exchanges for students and faculty;

 

·   development of a joint master's degree program in economics and management with the possibility of obtaining a dual degree at all levels of study;

·        participation in the international Erasmus+ program;

·        holding joint scientific events, including workshops and conferences.

The parties expressed mutual interest in expanding their partnership and emphasized the importance of international cooperation in education and science.

Test cosmonaut Mukhtar Rabatovich Aimakhanov has been appointed Advisor to the President of Astana International University.

On September 19, 2025, test cosmonaut Mukhtar Rabatovich Aimakhanov was appointed Advisor to the President of Astana International University. His appointment is related to the implementation of the university's strategic initiatives in engineering, space research, and the launch of the university satellite.

Mukhtar Aimakhanov graduated from the Chernihiv Higher Military Aviation School in 1988 with a degree in pilot engineering and served in the Air Force. In the 2000s, he worked extensively in the financial sector and also earned a law degree.

Since 2003, he has trained at the Yury Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Center, where he received the qualification of test cosmonaut in 2005. For over ten years, he has been involved in space training, participating in specialized training and scientific projects, including the International Space Station flight program.

Since 2022, he has continued working in cosmonaut training and scientific activities.

Mukhtar Rabatović's arrival at AIU marks an important step in the university's development and the formation of new areas in engineering and space technology. His experience and knowledge will contribute to the training of future scientific specialists and the strengthening of the university's research potential, particularly in the work of the Industry 4.0 R&D Center—an AIU division tasked with conducting scientific research, developing innovative solutions, and training personnel in key areas of Industry 4.0, as well as developing projects for the creation of a constellation of pico- and nanosatellites, the use of digital twins, artificial intelligence, and additive manufacturing.

Mukhtar Rabatović's experience in aviation and astronautics will enable the university to strengthen these initiatives, give new impetus to engineering research, and strengthen international cooperation in space and high technology.

STRENGTHENING INTERNATIONAL COOPERATION: AIU HIGHER SCHOOL OF ECONOMICS HOSTED FACULTY MEMBERS FROM I. RAZZAKOV KSTU FOR A SCIENTIFIC AND PEDAGOGICAL....

As part of the implementation of the Memorandum of Cooperation between Astana International University and I. Razzakov Kyrgyz State Technical University, a scientific and pedagogical internship took place at AIU from September 22 to 28, 2025.

The internship participants were Associate Professors of the Department of “Finance, Analysis and Accounting” — A.A. Chonkoeva and Sh.Kh. Atakhodzhaev. The program included familiarization with AIU’s educational policy and development strategy, campus visits, and attendance of academic sessions.

Within the framework of academic cooperation, practical workshops were held on the preparation of scientific publications, discussions were conducted on academic ethics, research methods, as well as current issues in economics, entrepreneurship, and the social sphere.

Guest lectures by the visiting faculty sparked particular interest: Associate Professor A.A. Chonkoeva delivered a lecture on "Financial and Economic Security at the Enterprise (Case Study of Construction Companies)", and Associate Professor Sh.Kh. Atakhodzhaev held a session on "Financial Investigations in the Digital Age."

The internship program also included visits to the university’s Social Innovation Hub, the AIU library, and meetings with the faculty members of the Higher School of Economics. AIU highly values the development of academic exchange and international dialogue. This internship became an important step toward strengthening scientific and educational ties and expanding cooperation between our universities.

Professor of the Higher School of Arts and Humanities appointed Minister of Education

By the Decree of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Zhuldyz Suleimenova has been appointed Minister of Education.

Short Biography
Zhuldyz Suleimenova was born in 1983.

In 2004, she graduated from Al-Farabi Kazakh National University with a bachelor’s degree in History. From 2006 to 2008, she pursued a master’s degree in Philosophy and Political Science. In 2011, she completed her doctoral studies and received a PhD in Cultural Studies.

Zhuldyz Suleimenova began her career in academia, teaching at universities and holding leadership positions in youth policy and education. She worked at the Aktobe Institute, Kazakh National Agrarian University, International Academy of Business, and Kazakh State Women’s Pedagogical University. Since 2012, she has held a number of senior positions at Nazarbayev Intellectual Schools JSC, overseeing educational policy and development. From 2021 to 2023, she served as a Member of the Mazhilis of the VII convocation from the Nur Otan party, and since 2023, she has been a Member of the VIII convocation from the Amanat party.

In 2025, Zhuldyz Suleimenova joined the academic community of Astana International University, where she taught the course Philosophy at the Higher School of Arts and Humanities.

The 30th Anniversary of the Constitution – a Celebration of Historical Continuity and Civic Responsibilityи

A gala event dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the Constitution of the Republic of Kazakhstan was held at Astana International University.

The ceremony was attended by Kairat Abdrakhmanov, Vice-Rector of Astana International University; Meyirzhan Nuradinov, representative of the Republican State Institution "Kogamdyk Kelisim" of the Ministry of Culture and Information of the Republic of Kazakhstan; and Sayat Ybyrai, Dean of the Graduate School of Arts and Humanities of Astana International University.

On August 30, 1995, the Constitution was adopted by popular referendum, becoming the solid foundation of independent Kazakhstan. It defined the main directions of the country's political, legal, and social development and enshrined key values:

• protection of human rights and freedoms;

• equality and justice;

• rule of law;

• peace and harmony. These principles were reflected not only in legal provisions but also in the everyday life of society. That same historic year, the Assembly of the People of Kazakhstan was established. This was not just a calendar coincidence, but a conscious historical choice for the sake of the country's future.

As Meyirzhan Turlanovich Nuradinov, a representative of the Kazakh State University "Kogamdyk Kelisim" of the Ministry of Culture and Information of the Republic of Kazakhstan, noted, today in Kazakhstan, representatives of more than 100 ethnic groups live with equal rights and contribute to the development of our common homeland.

The 30th anniversary of the Constitution and the Assembly is an important milestone, encouraging a deeper understanding of civic responsibility, respect for the law, and devotion to serving our country.

The event continued with a concert program featuring student performances. The audience was treated to patriotic videos, kui, dances, poetry, and theatrical performances.

At the end of the celebration, active participants and the best performers were awarded. The university administration particularly emphasized the importance of such events for strengthening students' patriotic feelings and developing their cultural and creative potential.

At Astana International University, faculty and students took part in an event dedicated to Clean Air Day.

On September 25, 2025, faculty members of Astana International University's School of Natural Sciences, Aiman ​​ Avezova and Aiman ​​ Karabalaeva, along with fourth-year students of the Ecology and Nature Management program, visited the Presidential Museum and participated in an event organized in honor of Clean Air Day.

The event, supported by the United Nations Development Program in the Republic of Kazakhstan (UNDP), brought together representatives of government agencies, diplomatic missions, and international organizations. The program included a presentation of the study "Ecology through the Eyes of Kazakhstanis," an expert discussion of practical recommendations, and an awards ceremony for the winners of the "Climate: Countdown" journalism competition.

Particular attention was paid to the role of the media in promoting the climate agenda, fostering environmental awareness, and engaging society in creating a sustainable future. Participation in the event also served as a symbolic contribution to the "Taza Kazakstan" initiative of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, which unites the efforts of the state, society, and the media to protect the environment.

For university students and faculty, participation in this event was not only a vibrant educational experience but also an opportunity to engage with practical issues of ecology, sustainable development, and international cooperation in environmental protection.

 Such events help future ecologists understand the importance of their profession and inspire students to actively participate in addressing global environmental challenges.

Expert Meeting on Nuclear Disarmament and the International Mediation Hub

  As part of the implementation of the scientific project funded under the 2025– 2027 grant program of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan, an expert meeting dedicated to nuclear disarmament and the peaceful resolution of conflicts was held online via the ZOOM platform on 24 September 2025.

  The meeting was organized within the framework of the project AP26100031 “The International Mediation Hub as a Tool for Peaceful Conflict Resolution and Nuclear Disarmament: The Experience of Kazakhstan and Foreign Countries.”

The event was opened by the project leader, PhD Sholpan Saimova, who emphasized the importance of advancing both national and international research agendas in the field of global security.

  The session was moderated by senior researcher, Candidate of Juridical Sciences A.S. Irzhanov. In his presentation, he introduced the concept of establishing an International Mediation Hub as a platform for mediating inter-state disputes and promoting initiatives in the field of nuclear disarmament. Potential areas of activity, preliminary structure, and the future role of the hub in the global security system were outlined.

Senior researcher A.A. Bolat also delivered a report highlighting the theoretical aspects of nuclear disarmament. Independent international expert A.Z. Tainov and Director of the NGO Center for International Security and Policy A.T. Akhmetov contributed to the discussion, stressing the relevance and significance of the project under current conditions.

Summarizing the results of the meeting, participants underlined that the initiative to establish the International Mediation Hub fully corresponds to the global agenda of strengthening trust, developing peaceful means of conflict resolution, and promoting nuclear disarmament — areas where Kazakhstan has traditionally taken an active stance.
