Shaping the Future Through Chinese Language Education!
Tue, Jan 27, 2026, 9:27 AM

Today more than 1.5 billion people worldwide speak Chinese, making it the most widely spoken language globally. China is one of the world’s leading economies and a key trading partner for many countries, including Kazakhstan.

In recognition of its strategic importance, the United States launched the “100,000 Strong” initiative in 2009 and later the “1 Million Strong” program in 2015 to expand Chinese language learning nationwide.

Chinese language proficiency directly contributes to stronger trade relations, international cooperation, and expanded career opportunities in business, logistics, investment, and global projects. Numerous international programs and scholarships worldwide support Chinese language education.

On January 24, BLCU Kazakhstan hosted the HSK and HSKK international examinations in a computer-based format.

This year, 124 candidates participated — a 55% increase compared to 80 participants last year. The figures clearly demonstrate the steady growth of interest in Chinese language studies.

BLCU Kazakhstan remains the only official center in Astana authorized to administer HSK and HSKK in full digital format in compliance with international standards. The computer-based system ensures accessibility, efficiency, and global alignment.

Recognizing these global trends, the University has embraced the mission of expanding multilingual opportunities. In addition to Russian and English, it actively promotes Chinese language education, preparing students for success in a globally connected economy.

The University not only follows global developments — it leads them.

DIGITAL AND INTERNATIONAL COMPETENCIES AS THE FOUNDATION OF A COMPETITIVE GRADUATE IN THE CONTEXT OF THE SDGS: INTEGRATION OF COURSERA....
Thu, Jan 22, 2026, 10:13 AM

In the context of the digital transformation of higher education and increasing requirements for the development of universal and professional competencies, the integration of international online educational platforms into the learning process is gaining particular importance. One of the key tools in this area is the Coursera platform, which provides students with access to modern courses offered by leading universities and international educational centers. In the first semester of the 2025–2026 academic year, the Higher School of Economics continued the practice of integrating Coursera online courses into bachelor’s degree programs in Management, International Business, Marketing, and Tourism. Course selection was carried out taking into account the profiles of educational programs, the logic of professional competency development, and labor market needs. Within the 6B04117 Management educational program, the courses Teamwork Skills: Communicating Effectively in Groups and Introduction to Generative AI in Human Resources were implemented. These courses are aimed at developing teamwork skills, interpersonal communication, and effective interaction in a professional environment.
For the 6B04122 International Business program, the course Fundamentals of International Business was selected, focusing on the development of a systemic understanding of international trade processes, the functioning of global markets, the specifics of transnational business, and the impact of the international economic environment on company operations.
Within the 6B04111 Marketing educational program, the course Fundamentals of Marketing Strategy was implemented. The course content is aimed at mastering strategic approaches to marketing management, analyzing consumer behavior, forming market positioning, and developing competitive strategies. For the 6B11101 Tourism educational program, the courses Inspirational Leadership through Emotional Intelligence and Effective Communication for Project Stakeholders and Teams were introduced. These courses focus on developing emotional intelligence, leadership qualities, and personnel management skills, which are key factors of effectiveness in the tourism and service sectors.
In the first semester of the 2025–2026 academic year, 120 students of the Higher School of Economics obtained certificates through the Coursera platform. In addition, during the first semester of the 2025–2026 academic year, the Overview of AI training program was successfully implemented on the HUAWEI platform. Bachelor’s degree students in International Business, Management, Marketing, Finance, Economics, and Tourism completed online training and received international certificates confirming their basic competencies in the field of artificial intelligence. The program involved 200 first-year students, ensuring 100% coverage across all academic groups.

As noted by the curator of digital educational content at the Higher School of Economics, A.A. Usipbekov, the implementation of the Overview of AI course on the HUAWEI platform equips future specialists with relevant digital skills and enhances their understanding of the role of artificial intelligence in economics, business, and management. The integration of online courses from international educational platforms such as Coursera and HUAWEI into the educational programs of the Higher School of Economics directly contributes to the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, in particular SDG 4 — Quality Education, SDG 8 — Decent Work and Economic Growth, and SDG 9 — Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure, as the introduction of modern courses, including those focused on artificial intelligence and digital technologies, implemented in partnership with international platforms, promotes the development of the innovative potential of the educational environment and the formation of the university’s digital infrastructure.
