Almaty gathered experts: how universities introduce "green" technologies and develop ecological culture

On November 27, Almaty hosted the international conference "Implementation of Environmental Initiatives in Universities: Successful Experience and Development" with the participation of representatives of educational institutions, students and experts in the field of sustainable development. Astana International University was represented by Senior Lecturer of the Higher School of Natural Sciences, PhD Karabalaeva Aiman.

The event was organized by the ERA Foundation and brought together leading experts in the field of environmental education at the site of the Kazakh National University named after Al-Farabi, such as Elena Gorokhova (ERA Foundation), Gaini Dlimbetova (L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University) and many others. The main goal of the conference was to discuss successful examples of the implementation of "green" technologies and create a platform for the exchange of experience between universities in Kazakhstan and international partners.

As part of the event, the participants got acquainted with the international program "Green Universities", learned about the work of eco-clubs, and discussed the prospects for forming the Association of Green Universities. Karabalaeva Aiman ​​shared practical approaches to the implementation of environmental standards and methods for forming an environmental culture among students. Such initiatives highlight the importance of sustainability in higher education and help create conditions for preparing students for modern challenges. The conference was another step towards an environmentally conscious future and strengthening cooperation between universities in the region.

The Team of the Pedagogical Institute Achieved Great Success at the International Chemistry Olympiad

Students of the Pedagogical Institute of Astana International University, enrolled in the educational program "6B01503-Chemistry," achieved significant success at the III International Chemistry Olympiad among university students, demonstrating a high level of professional training and commitment to achieving their goals.

As a result of their participation in the III International Chemistry Olympiad among university students, the team won three medals, showcasing exceptional skills and professional competence. Furthermore, our students were the only participants additionally awarded prizes for their active involvement in all three sections of the International Scientific and Practical Conference organized as part of the Olympiad.

We are particularly proud of the fact that our team was the only pedagogical team to compete on equal terms with representatives of scientific chemistry and the only representative from Kazakhstan among participants from 13 countries worldwide.

We express our gratitude to the team leader, Damen Aukyovna Nurgaliyeva, for supporting the students, as well as to the participants themselves: Nurlan Muradovich Kairova, a 4th-year student; Қали Асанәлі Манарбекұлы, a 1st-year student; Aslanbek Altynbekuly Akramov, a 1st-year student; and Amadey Vladimirovich Moiseenko, a 2nd-year student, for their hard work, perseverance, and honorable representation of the university on the international stage. Astana International University became a co-organizer of the conference on sustainable development in Mumbai, India

On November 22–23, 2024, Astana International University, in collaboration with AI Universal University (India), co-hosted the International Conference on Sustainable Development held in Mumbai. The event attracted leading experts from nine countries, including the USA, China, Iran, Vietnam, the Philippines, and others. Organized in a Case Study format, the conference brought together academics and practitioners to address the key challenges of sustainable development. It provided a unique platform for exchanging experiences, analyzing real-life cases, and exploring practical solutions in areas such as education, economics, and ecology.

 

The main focus of the conference was on integrating theoretical knowledge and practical approaches through case methodology. This allowed participants not only to discuss pressing issues but also to model potential solutions. Key topics addressed during the conference included:

 

Innovative approaches to reforming the education system to achieve Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs);

Environmental sustainability programs aimed at combating climate change and preserving natural resources;

Promoting sustainable economic growth, considering regional and international integration aspects.

One of the significant outcomes of the conference was the adoption of a resolution aimed at actively incorporating sustainable development principles into educational programs and research. Astana International University demonstrated its commitment to the SDGs by initiating the development of new educational strategies focused on fostering a sustainable university ecosystem.

 

The conference also featured workshops and interactive sessions, which facilitated intercultural and professional dialogue. Such events strengthen international collaboration and help universities play a leading role in addressing global challenges.

Lecture by the Deputy Secretary General of the CSTO at the AIU

On November 29, 2024, Astana International University hosted a lecture by the Deputy Secretary General of the CSTO, Taalatbek Shamudinovich Masadykov, on the topic "Topical issues of regional security in Central Asia". During the lecture, the key challenges of the region, the role of Afghanistan and the contribution of the CSTO to ensuring stability were highlighted.

The lecture aroused great interest among students of the specialty "International Relations" and teachers, who actively asked questions about the prospects of international cooperation in Central Asia. In particular, the discussion touched upon important issues such as the development of quality education, which is the basis for the stability and prosperity of the region, as well as Kazakhstan's role in achieving global goals such as poverty eradication and zero hunger.

The lecture was continued by a seminar during which experts and young scientists of the university presented reports on the multi-vector policy of Kazakhstan, humanitarian initiatives, as well as the impact of Afghanistan on Central Asia. These topics have become important elements of the discussion, focusing on how international cooperation and decisive action can help solve global problems such as hunger and poverty and ensure long-term security and stability in the region.

This meeting was a unique opportunity for AIU students and teachers not only to hear the opinion of a world-class expert, but also to be inspired by new ideas and initiatives aimed at developing the region and solving the most pressing problems. She recalled that through open dialogue, cooperation and common efforts, it is possible to overcome any challenges, creating the foundation for a better future.
