12 students from Kyzylorda and Mangystau regions were granted a unique opportunity to develop key skills and establish professional connections through the Girls in STEM Leadership Program organized by UNDP on December 11–12, 2024, at the OzgeEpic creative hub. Our university was represented by Gaukhar Alshyn (3rd year, “Ecology and Environmental Management”), Akhynazar Aikumis (1st year, “Biology”), and Dilyara Shyngyskhan (1st year, “Recreational Geography and Tourism”).
🎯 What did the program offer students?
1️⃣ Leadership skills and confidence – through workshops and lectures by experienced leaders like Assel Zhanassova (Kazpost JSC) and Aigerim Kusainkyzy (Academy of Public Administration), participants learned to advocate for their ideas and communicate effectively.
2️⃣ Practice and internships (Job Shadowing) – participants had the opportunity to observe the work of leading women in STEM, expanding their understanding of professions and future possibilities. They also met women deputies in the Mazhilis of the Parliament of Kazakhstan.
3️⃣ Networking and mentor support – meetings with parliamentarians and experts opened new horizons and helped create valuable professional contacts.

A special guest of the event was Helen Clark – Chair of the Board of the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative, former Prime Minister of New Zealand (1999–2008), and UNDP Administrator (2009–2017). Helen Clark interacted with program participants and UNDP staff in Kazakhstan, shared her experience, and answered questions during a Q&A session. 💡

🌟 We believe that the knowledge gained on writing resumes, preparing for interviews, and building a personal brand will be a vital step toward a successful career. The experience of interacting with women leaders will inspire the girls to overcome stereotypes and promote gender equality in STEM.

This event made a significant contribution to developing young talents and preparing Kazakhstan’s future leaders! 🎓💼
