From December 2 to 6, AIU hosted Geography Week, dedicated to the implementation of the principles of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The event aimed at developing students' professional knowledge and skills in geography, raising awareness about global challenges of sustainable development, strengthening teamwork, as well as fostering values of social responsibility and a healthy lifestyle.
• SDG 4: Quality Education
Students participated in a quest using satellite maps, a seminar-training session, and an intellectual game "Ziyatkerlik Doda." These activities contributed to enhancing their educational level, developing practical skills, and deepening their knowledge in geography.
• SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being
As part of the week, a seminar-training session on healthy living was held, and a mini-football tournament among students was organized. These events emphasized the importance of health and well-being, motivating students to lead an active and healthy lifestyle.
• SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities
At the organized fair, students raised funds that were donated to a nursing home. This event demonstrated support for vulnerable groups of people and contributed to reducing social and economic inequalities.
• SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities
The quest using satellite maps helped develop skills in cartography, route planning, and sustainable territorial planning, aligning with the goals of this SDG.
The activities of Geography Week exemplified an interdisciplinary approach encompassing education, health, social assistance, and sustainable development. Student participation in such initiatives fosters their comprehensive development and understanding of their role in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.
