On November 26, 2024, the “Kazmedia Center” conference
hall hosted a roundtable discussion titled “Dialogue of Eras: Preserving the Historical Memory of the Peoples of
Kazakhstan and the Russian Federation.” The event’s
centerpiece was the presentation of the monograph “A New Perspective on an Old Era: The Kazakh Steppe
and the Russian Empire Through the Lens of Statistics.”
The monograph was co-authored by Taisiya Viktorovna
Marmontova, Candidate of Historical Sciences, Associate Professor at the School
of Arts and Humanities at Astana International University, and
Academic Supervisor of the Central Asian Institute “Eurasian Monitoring”;
Alibek Tazhibayev, Director of the Central Asian Institute “Eurasian
Monitoring”; and Alexander Igorevich Drogovoz, Deputy Director of the Institute
of International Education at A.N. Kosygin Russian State University. Drawing on
archival documents and statistical data, the monograph provides a fresh
perspective on the historical process of the Kazakh Steppe's integration into
the Russian Empire. It underscores the importance of an objective approach to
studying complex historical events, steering clear of ideological bias.
The roundtable brought together scholars, diplomats,
public figures, and students to discuss how historical memory influences
national identity and promotes academic collaboration between Kazakhstan and
Russia. The event concluded with a book presentation ceremony and an autograph
session with the authors.
