On September 10, 2024, Astana International
University (AIU) hosted a discussion meeting on the construction of a nuclear
power plant (NPP). The event was attended not only by specialists in the field
of ecology and energy, but also by members of the people's headquarters, who
conduct explanatory work on the economic benefits of the project.
Teachers of the Pedagogical Institute also took part
in this meeting, which made it possible to learn more about the benefits and
harms of nuclear power plants from a social point of view. Members of the
people's headquarters conducted explanatory work on the economic benefits of
nuclear power plants construction, noting that nuclear power can provide a
stable energy supply for many years, reducing the region's dependence on fossil
fuels and creating new jobs. Experts also drew attention to the fact that Kazakhstan,
as one of the largest suppliers of uranium, can use this resource for the
development of its energy infrastructure.
As a result of the discussion, the participants
concluded that the construction of a nuclear power plant opens up wide
opportunities for Kazakhstan, but requires careful analysis and responsibility
in terms of ensuring environmental and Social Security.
