Akhmetov Damir Muratovich Successfully Defended His Doctoral Dissertation

On June 8, 2026, the Dissertation Council in the field of training 8D042 – Law at Astana International University held the successful defense of the doctoral dissertation of Damir Muratovich Akhmetov submitted for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) under the educational program 8D04201 – Jurisprudence.

The title of the dissertation was: “The Legal Regime of Foreign Investments in the Special Economic and Industrial Zones of the Republic of Kazakhstan.”

The dissertation was completed at the Higher School of Law of Astana International University and focused on the study of contemporary issues in the legal regulation of foreign investments in the special economic and industrial zones of the Republic of Kazakhstan, as well as on the improvement of legal mechanisms supporting investment activities in the context of modern socio-economic transformations.

The doctoral candidate’s academic supervisors were Aiman Kudaibergenovna Kusainova, Candidate of Legal Sciences, Professor of the Higher School of Law at Astana International University, and Jacek Zaleśny, Doctor of Legal Sciences, Professor at the University of Warsaw (Republic of Poland).

The dissertation defense was held under the chairmanship of Amanzhol Magzumovich Nurmagambetov, Doctor of Legal Sciences and Professor. The proceedings of the Dissertation Council were attended by Arstan Nokeshovich Akhpanov, Deputy Chair of the Council, Doctor of Legal Sciences and Professor, and Alisher Serikbolovich Ibrayev, Academic Secretary of the Dissertation Council.

The following scholars participated in the defense as temporary members of the Dissertation Council: Aigerim Bauyrzhankyzy Zhumabayeva, PhD, Chief Specialist at the Center for Social Projects and Public Initiatives of the Institute of Parliamentarism; Antonina Serikovna Kizdarbekova, Candidate of Legal Sciences and Associate Professor at E.A. Buketov Karaganda State University; and Lyudmila Alexandrovna Bukalerova, Doctor of Legal Sciences and Professor at the Patrice Lumumba Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia.

The official reviewers of the dissertation were Gulzhazira Aktureevna Ilyassova, Candidate of Legal Sciences and Professor, and Svetlana Pavlovna Moroz, Doctor of Legal Sciences and Professor. They highly evaluated the scientific novelty, theoretical significance, and practical relevance of the dissertation research.

Following an open discussion and a secret ballot vote, the Dissertation Council unanimously resolved to award Damir Muratovich Akhmetov the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in the educational program 8D04201 – Jurisprudence.
