Digital Milestone: Kazakhstan and China to Jointly Advance Artificial Intelligence

The World Artificial Intelligence Conference, dedicated to the issues of technological development and digital transformation, took place in Shanghai. At the invitation of the President of the People's Republic of China, Xi Jinping, the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, attended this large-scale event.

On July 16, a ceremony for the signing of important documents between higher education institutions of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the People's Republic of China was held within the framework of the forum, with the participation of the Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Zhaslan Hasenovich Madiev. During the event, a number of agreements aimed at developing science and education in both countries were formalized. One of the key outcomes of the visit was a new round of negotiations between Astana International University (AIU) and Shenzhen University (SZU). During the meeting, the leaders of the two countries' leading higher education institutions approved a memorandum on the establishment and strategic development of a joint artificial intelligence laboratory.

This large-scale project, which unites the scientific potential of both nations, is being implemented under the direct and close supervision of the university heads. The future laboratory is designed to serve not merely as a research center, but as a powerful technological hub for the entire academic community of Kazakhstan and China. Under the framework of the memorandum, the parties aim to launch joint research projects in the most relevant and advanced fields of artificial intelligence, alongside a continuous bilateral transfer of modern research materials and academic information. Furthermore, this partnership will open up broad horizons for faculty members, young scientists, and students, providing them with opportunities to actively exchange experience and enhance their qualifications in both nations. To address global challenges, international seminars and scientific symposia will be organized on a regular basis.

This project is a natural and fruitful outcome of the scientific and technical dialogue initiated between the two universities back in 2024. The creation of the joint artificial intelligence laboratory will undoubtedly provide a powerful impetus to the development of Kazakhstan's digital ecosystem and significantly elevate the prestige of domestic science on the international stage.
