AIU and Chinese State-Owned Corporation SPIC to Train Personnel for Green Energy

On July 10, 2026, Astana International University (AIU) hosted a meeting between the university's leadership, led by its President and Rector, and a delegation from the State Power Investment Corporation of China (SPIC) – one of the world's leading companies in renewable energy.
The Chinese delegation arrived in Kazakhstan as part of the preparations for upcoming intergovernmental negotiations. Alongside strengthening trade and economic ties, the training of highly qualified personnel has become a key priority of bilateral cooperation. These specialists will ensure the stable and timely implementation of joint projects carried out by SPIC and other Chinese companies in Kazakhstan and Central Asia.
According to the head of the Chinese delegation, Mr. Wang Hanzhong, more than two thousand Chinese state-owned enterprises are currently operating in Kazakhstan. The annual demand for highly qualified local personnel ranges from 300 to 500 people.
Future specialists will face rigorous requirements. In addition to deep professional competencies, they must be fluent in four languages: Kazakh, Chinese, Russian, and English. Furthermore, the market demands not only engineers and power industry experts but also versatile professionals, including lawyers, financiers, and specialists in business administration and management.
SPIC already possesses successful experience in establishing educational consortia – most notably, a joint institute with Shanghai Jiao Tong University, one of China's premier academic institutions. Corporate representatives expressed their readiness to leverage this experience to build a strategic partnership with Astana International University.
The new educational programs based at AIU will aim to bridge the talent gap not only for SPIC itself but also for other Chinese enterprises operating across Central Asian markets.
The meeting concluded in a friendly and constructive atmosphere. Following the negotiations, the parties agreed to initiate the detailed development of specific areas of cooperation at the working group level in the near future.
