AIU Research Project Presented at the Lecture of IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi

On 22 May 2026, a guest lecture by Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Rafael Grossi was held at Nazarbayev University in Astana. Sholpan Saimova, Scientific Supervisor of the research project “AP26100031 – International Mediation Hub as an Instrument for Peaceful Conflict Resolution and Nuclear Disarmament: the Experience of Kazakhstan and Foreign Countries,” participated in the lecture as an attendee.
During his lecture, Rafael Grossi addressed the prospects for cooperation between Kazakhstan and the IAEA, as well as current international issues in the field of nuclear security. He highly praised Kazakhstan’s consistent commitment to strengthening global nuclear security and the non-proliferation regime. In conclusion, Rafael Grossi noted that Kazakhstan possesses a well-developed scientific and technical base for the development of nuclear energy.
It should also be noted that within the framework of the implementation of the research project AP26100031 and in accordance with the 2026 work plan, research and expert meetings are planned in Vienna — one of the key international centers of nuclear diplomacy and activities of international organizations in the field of nuclear security — as well as in Stockholm at the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI), which specializes in international security, arms control, and nuclear disarmament studies
