The opening of the BLCU branch in Astana is the result of joint efforts of the governments of China and Kazakhstan, as well as two leading universities. BLCU is one of the leading universities in China, specializing in the study of Chinese language and culture. Now students in Kazakhstan and Central Asia can get a quality education in Chinese language and culture without leaving their home country. This step not only strengthens educational and scientific ties between China and Kazakhstan, but also promotes cooperation in various fields, including economics and culture. The establishment of a BLCU branch in Astana demonstrates the deep interaction between our countries and the desire to further develop international relations. Brief summary of cooperation The initiative to establish a branch of BLCU in Astana comes from the Embassy of the Republic of Kazakhstan in China and is supported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of Kazakhstan. The official agreement was signed on March 19, 2024. The BLCU Astana branch became the third in the world after Tokyo and Bangkok and aims to educate Kazakhstani and Central Asian students. In the first few years it plans to enroll 100 students: 75 for language courses and 25 for undergraduate studies. Campus Astana University Campus is located on the territory of Astana International University (AIU) in Expo Center C2.1. The classrooms of the campus are equipped with modern equipment providing high quality education. The campus is located in close proximity to major shopping and entertainment centers, parks and cultural attractions, which makes the learning process comfortable and diverse. Teaching staff The distinctive feature of the BLCU Astana branch is a highly qualified teaching staff consisting of experienced teachers from China. These teachers are known for their professionalism and unique teaching methods that help students quickly and effectively master the Chinese language. As part of the dual degree programs, students will be able to earn degrees from both universities, which opens up a wide range of career prospects for them.
Admission Procedure for Dual Degree Educational Programs
Admission Procedure for Dual Degree Educational Programs (DD EP) in Cooperation with Beijing Language and Culture University (BLCU) To participate in the competition for the award of a higher education grant funded by the republican budget and/or to enroll in tuition-based education under the following programs: 6В01711 – English and Chinese Language (В018 (KZ-CHN-185)), 6B02303 – Translation Studies: Chinese Language (В036 (KZ-CHN-185)), candidates must meet the following requirements: Have general secondary, technical and vocational, or post-secondary education; UNT (Unified National Testing) results must be no less than: • 55 points — Translation Studies: Chinese Language (В036 (KZ-CHN-185)), • 75 points — for the "Pedagogical Sciences" field, English and Chinese Language (В018 (KZ-CHN-185)); • additionally: At least 5 points in History of Kazakhstan and two specialized subjects, At least 3 points in reading literacy and mathematical literacy. If the UNT is taken in electronic format, one of the two results may be submitted for the competition, provided all score requirements are met. Additional requirements for DD EP with BLCU: Possession of HSK4 certificate is mandatory, or passing an interview with a BLCU Kazakhstan professor, which is held at our university. Based on the interview results, an official transcript is issued to the applicant. Additional exam dates: For grant competition — from June 20 to July 12 of the current year; For paid admission — from July 21 to August 20. Applications to participate in the additional exam must comply with the required scores. Bachelor's degree programs Within the framework of cooperation between Beijing Language and Culture University (BLCU) and Astana International University (AIU), double-diploma programs for students of Kazakhstan and Central Asia have been opened. Bachelor's and Master's degree programs will be taught in 2+2 or 3+1 format, which implies studying both in Kazakhstan and China. Students will be able to receive diplomas from both universities upon completion of the program. Beijing Language and Culture University is the best university in the world for learning Chinese. The President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Kemelovich Tokayev, completed a language internship at BLCU during the 1983-1984 academic year. The official agreement to establish the branch campus was signed in March 2024. BLCU Kazakhstan became the university's third international branch campus, following Tokyo and Bangkok. The main objectives of BLCU Kazakhstan are to teach Chinese according to international standards in Kazakhstan, promote bilateral cultural exchange, and train highly qualified specialists in language education, translation, and intercultural communication. The branch campus was officially opened on July 3, 2024, with the participation of the heads of state of Kazakhstan and China, highlighting the importance of this project for bilateral relations. This academic year, 100 students began their studies under the Foundation program. Based on BLCU's unique methodology, it is expected that after one year of study, students will pass the specialized Chinese language HSK exam and enroll in the dual-degree 3+1 bachelor's program. An HSK Testing Center (specialized Chinese language exam) will be established at the branch campus. BLCU Kazakhstan students in the 3+1 bachelor's program will have the opportunity to study under two educational programs: Translation Studies and Two Foreign Languages. The branch campus plans to enroll students from Central Asian countries in the 2025-2026 academic year.
Foundation program
BLCU branch in Astana provides Foundation programs to prepare applicants for undergraduate and graduate studies. The main focus is on preparation for the Chinese language proficiency test (HSK) and for the competition for grants to study at the best universities in China. Short-term Chinese language courses are also offered, including executive courses, HSK preparation, winter and summer camps.
